Knee Pain

Treating Knee Pain with Chiropractic Care

            knee pain

People who have knee pain are often dealing with pain associated with most, if not all, of the activities in their day. Sore knees can make standing, walking, climbing stairs, and even just sitting painful. There are several common causes of knee pain, most of which can benefit from treatment by our knowledgeable chiropractors here at Ringer Chiropractic in Tracy.

Common Causes of Knee Pain

Knee pain can be associated with many different types of injuries. Arthritis is a common cause of pain in older adults, as well as some younger people. Untreated injuries can flare up or suddenly cause problems when the knee is overstressed. Knee pain can also be caused by a problem somewhere else in the body, such as the ankles or the hips, or by obesity.

Women are more prone to problems in their knees, probably because of structural differences. Women have wider hips than men do, so in order to have their feet underneath them, the female legs must angle inward. This places greater stress on the knee joint. Whether women have more pain in their knees than men is debated, however, they do appear to have more structural problems.

Runners often experience knee pain. Poor technique or running on hard surfaces can contribute to this problem. One suggested cause of this problem is that certain muscles in his hips and pelvis may be too weak to keep the femur in proper alignment during extended periods of running.

Chiropractic Care and Knee Pain

There are a number of ways that our chiropractors can help you find relief from knee pain. The first thing that our chiropractors can do is provide an accurate diagnosis. While some treatments are good for all forms of knee pain, others will be more or less effective depending on your particular injury.

Our chiropractor will use a combination of treatments to provide pain relief, support the joint as it heals, and promote lifelong wellness:

  • Ice and/or heat therapy
  • Stretching
  • Chiropractic adjustment
  • Corrective exercises
  • Lifestyle advice
  • Posture Support

Chiropractic care emphasizes holistic, non-invasive forms of care that encourage the body's natural healing process. Ice can be used to reduce swelling. Heat is good for pain relief and to encourage blood flow to an area. Stretching, adjustments, and corrective exercises all work together to help flex and strengthen the joint.

Knee pain may result from compensation for poor posture or repeated activity that is hard on the joint. In some cases, these activities can be modified to reduce the pressure on the knee, either during the healing process or permanently. Even small changes in ergonomics can make a big difference.
